Led by Dr. Michelle Dickinson (MNZM), Nanogirl Labs is a social enterprise that aims to give every kid an equal opportunity to engage in STEM.
With a limited pipeline of new products, creative news generation is an essential part of our day-to-day press office. After learning in one of our work-in-progress meetings that Michelle often receives emails from children asking quirky science questions, we leapt into action.
We created a media narrative connecting the COVID-19 pandemic to increasing curiosity amongst children about science, as they tried to make sense of the world around them.
Using a combination of survey data and FAQs from kids, we secured national media opportunities with New Zealand’s number one morning show, TVNZ Breakfast and later the front page of The Age newspaper in Australia, leading to a 373% increase in unique visits to the Nanogirl Labs website and opportunities to convert sales.
Our ongoing news generation includes regular weekly coverage across a range of national, regional and broadcast media titles.
